Stroman is an enthusiastic entrepreneur and educator at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Virginia. She is a national speaker committed to real talk and strategies that engender intention, change, and innovation. Her instructional focus and experience lie in the leadership domains of Equity, Entrepreneurship, and Sport Business. Her company provides consulting services for organizations (profit and nonprofit) purposed to drive institutional and community change. Dr. Stroman’s doctoral studies in Leadership and Organizational Behavior are blended with her own personal activism, business and academic experiences to generate results. Services include keynote presentations, workshops, strategic and tactical planning, organizational audits, facilitation, listening sessions, and communications strategy.
Danita Rountree Green is a Storyteller On A Mission As an author, speaker, trauma specialist and master facilitator, Danita confronts the systemic harm caused by racism and the impact of the American slave trade. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the Maryland University of Integrative Health. She also serves on the Dismantling Racism committee (DRBBC) for the Presbytery of the James and is the Artist in Residence for the Virginia Department of Health specializing in generational and historical trauma. Danita has crafted a method to help others build relationships across racial lines and repair what is broken in our racially divided society.
Dr. Jackson is the founder and CEO of Advanced-Practice Providers (APP), a hospitalist and a home-visiting group of nurse practitioners and doctors based in greater Philadelphia. As a nurse practitioner, she treats and educates her patients and their family members about preventative care, the effects of trauma, and how social determinants of health can affect their health. As the CEO of APP, Dr. Jackson oversees the practice's daily operations and manages a team of caring and experienced medical professionals. Nurse practitioners work in many specialties, including hospitals, primary care, pediatrics, cardiology, emergency, women's health, oncology or geriatrics. Dr. Jackson brings invaluable expertise to Race Realities as one understands the importance of how stress manifests itself in the human body. As the body and mind experience stressors, oppression, and life transition, her trauma-certified provider background, skills, and approach in the sessions will complement the shared learning and healing activities. In addition to her entrepreneurial spirit, Dr. Jackson has 25+ years of academic and administrative healthcare experience as a faculty member at Temple University’s College of Public Health and Medical Director of the Vaux Community Health Clinic (now closed due to COVID-19 related constraints).
Dr. Duncan is the current Senior Associate Director of Athletics over Health and Wellness with the University of Illinois Chicago. In this critical role, Duncan manages staff and implements programs for student athletes such as Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition, Mental Health (including Substance Abuse and Relationships) and Sport Psychology/Performance. Prior to joining UIC, Duncan worked with the NBA’s Sacramento Kings as the VP of Kings Academy and Professional Development and the NFL’s Detroit Lions as the Sr. Director of Player Development. His extensive experience as a counselor, guide, and trainer for high-achieving men as they build and reinforce life skills to achieve their own definition of success is invaluable to the Race Realities Costa objectives. Additionally, he worked several years as Consulting Therapist for the University of Detroit Mercy and Wayne State University Athletics. In these roles he dealt with players who experienced grief/loss, performance anxiety and personal relationship issues.
Jeanius is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist focused on mental health for individuals, couples, and families based in Atlanta. In his private practice, Beach Stone Counseling, Jeanius enjoys providing guidance for Black males and people battling substance abuse. Jeanius launched initiatives such as the Fatherhood Speaker series, which showcased the stories of successful Black fathers. As a public speaker, he inspires others to value their family life and relationships. His life’s work is to advocate for those who suffer from mental health issues by bring awareness to this very impactful stressor on living a holistic life. Jeanius' clients include business, sports, and entertainment professionals.
The Race Realities™ presentation introduces a leadership 3-step model and historical context to the examination of structural racism in the United States. This session (provided to all retreat registrants) is an overview and deeper examination of race, racism, and culture concepts in the United States. In addition, the importance of language and communication will be addressed to foster understanding and belonging in families and organizations. It is designed to spark curiosity, foster dialogue, and present a clear understanding of the individual and organizational challenges of racial healing and collaborative decision-making. Proven success has sparked the imagination to now host retreats in Costa Rica to ADD the important pillar of healing to the model. Onward!
